My name is Tom Hand and I have been building period furniture for almost 40 years. It began as a hobby in a basement shop and then developed into my full-time business when I designed and constructed my dream shop in Rye, New Hampshire. Born in Portsmouth, NH, a 17th and 18th century booming furniture city in New England, I was introduced as a child to the rich history the city provides. A love of Portsmouth furniture was a natural for me but the opportunity to reproduce many of the pieces has become a real privilege.

I am a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, a member of the Guild of NH Woodworkers and have exhibited my work at the Strawbery Bank Museum in New Hampshire along with other venues. While employed at a local community bank for 28 years, one of the best lessons I learned was the enjoyable relationship working with people. I have applied this lesson to my furniture business and truly understand how personal a custom made piece of furniture is for a client and how important your satisfaction is to me.

Thank you for browsing my website. As you can imagine, it is only a representative sample of my work and many of the pieces are on display at my home in Rye where in a natural setting the furniture is best viewed. I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you directly and I can be reached daily in my home shop at 603.436.2363. I look forward to your call.
