GAINES SIDE CHAIRS

John Gaines III, an Ipswich Massachusetts Chair Maker moved to Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1724. Gaines's made many chairs in Portsmouth along with other furniture pieces. This chair is a very interesting, graceful piece with carved Spanish feet and crest featuring a Queen Anne back splat. The turned front legs and stretcher along with the rush seat and carvings combine to create a unique country and urban chair.
