CHIPPENDALE SIDE CHAIR

Examples of this chair were made in Rhode Island. It has Marlborough legs to indicate the origin, rather than cabriole legs that were found on pieces from other regions of New England. It has a beautiful carved back splat, sometimes referred to as an owl's eye splat. The carving is shallow in depth but gives the splat just enough relief to be comfortable on the back but truly pleasing to the eye.
